The oldest in Pakistan and the second oldest in the Indian sub-continent, the Lahore Gymkhana cricket ground established in 1880 holds immense significance in the world of cricket.
CLUB HISTORY
The first match between British Army and World XI was played on the same ground in 1911. The first international match between MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) and the British Army was also played here in 1926. The ground became the first headquarters of the Cricket Control Board of Pakistan in 1948 (which later shifted to Gaddafi Stadium)
Members may avail cricket club facilities for net practice and playing friendly tournament matches upon being selected for the Lahore Gymkhana Cricket Teams. The teams are selected by the Captain on the basis of playing abilities. To be eligible to avail the cricket club facilities, the members have to be either holders of the Sports Card or pay a monthly subscription. Net practice facility may also be availed on a per day basis by paying daily charges. However, matches can only be played if the member either holds a Sports Card or pays monthly subscription.
The net practice facility is available from Tuesday to Friday, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm in winters and 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm in summers. The member can simply come over to the ground and upon showing his membership card to the ground staff begin practicing. To play matches, which are held on Saturdays (for the B Team) and Sundays (for the A Team), the interested members have to convey their desire to play either of the matches (Saturday or Sunday) by Thursday day-end, by registering their names with Office Bearers of the Cricket Club. The teams selected from among the registered members are displayed on the Cricket Clubs notice board by Friday afternoon for the matches to be played on the following Saturdays Sundays. The members may obtain confirmation about their selection in the respective teams by calling the ground supervisor at the cricket ground. The matches begin at 9:30 am and are usually of 40 overs.
